Located at the UCSF Mission Bay Campus, the new Joan and Sanford I. Weill Neurosciences Building will expand the University’s research and clinical capacity to advance new treatments for disorders of the brain and nervous system. Combined with the nearby the Sandler Neurosciences Center (also featuring an O|CB-designed landscape), the neuroscience complex at UCSF Mission Bay will become one of the largest in the world. O|CB is collaborating with Mark Cavagnero Associates and SmithGroupJJR on this prominent project situated at Koret Quad in the heart of the campus. The landscape design includes a large entry plaza fronting 4th Street with a sculptural seating platform, a new pedestrian paseo which stitches together a previously disconnected network of campus spaces, and extensive “green” stormwater infrastructure executed in a series of biofiltration planters. Within this compact 2-acre urban site, the planters capture stormwater from 60,000 square feet of impervious surfaces, reducing stormwater runoff rates and removing pollutants from the campus watershed.
